PSSA Singlehanded Southern California Championship 2007

PURPOSE

To promote the furtherance of singlehanded sailing and racing in the Southern Californian region through fair and open competition.  The Championship races are held at different venues in conjunction with clubs that have demonstrated a commitment to singlehanded sailing through inclusion of singlehanded events in their sailing calendar over a period of time.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to any monohull singlehanded sailor with a valid PHRF rating certificate.  Entrants must complete the Championship entry form and submit to the PSSA Fleet Captain with valid PHRF rating and stated entry fee 24 hours prior to the start time of the first scheduled race.  Go to the PSSA web page, www.pssala.org, to download an entry form. Mail entry forms to the return address on this brochure.

Championship Entry Form

RACES

The Championship will be comprised of three races including two day-races, and one overnight race.  PSSA will publish in its sailing calendar which races each year will make up the Championship.  Typically these races will be part of a previously organized sailing event. The course and rules for each race shall be per the sailing instructions issued by the yacht club hosting the event.  PSSA will calculate Championship scorings based on elapsed times recorded by the host club.

HANDICAP

Handicaps shall be based on the boat’s base PHRF – RLC rating with no adjustment for non-spinnaker offset.

RULES

Rules shall be as indicated in the host club’s published sailing instructions.

RACE ENTRIES

The onus is on participants to enter and comply with the hosting club’s entry policies for each of the individual races.  Championship entry does not automatically enter you in individual races.

SCORING

Scoring shall be on a high point system where a boat scores points equal to the number of boats starting the race, less the number of boats placing ahead of her on corrected time.  There shall be no throw-outs and final placing shall be based on the aggregate of points earned in each of the races. In the case of a tie, it shall be broken in favor of the boat which beat the other more times in the course of the Championship.  If this does not resolve the tie, the boat beating the other in the last race shall break the tie.

TROPHY

PSSA is sponsoring a perpetual trophy for this Championship which will be presented at the annual PSSA trophy presentation night held in December of each year.  Winners of this trophy are permitted to keep this trophy at their host club for one year and return it to PSSA for re-presentation in the following November.

AMENDMENTS

PSSA reserves the right to amend the rules of this championship or modify the selection of races as deemed fit by the current PSSA Board of Directors.
